Which Preset Should You Use?
PixelToPath offers three optimized presets depending on the nature of your image. You can also fine-tune every parameter manually.
B&W Black & White
Converts the image to grayscale before tracing. Produces clean, single-color paths. Best for:
- Logos and brand marks
- Icons and pictograms
- Line art and sketches
- Vinyl cutting and laser engraving
Poster Flat color
Traces the image as multiple color layers stacked on top of each other with high color precision. Best for:
- Flat illustrations and cartoons
- Infographics and diagrams
- Clipart and stickers
- Digital artwork with distinct colors
Photo Photographs
Uses broader color grouping and noise filtering to handle the complexity of real photographs. Best for:
- Portraits and faces
- Landscape photographs
- Product photos
- Complex images with many gradients
What Can You Do With Your SVG?
SVG files produced by PixelToPath are fully standard and work everywhere. Here are the most common use cases.
Edit in Figma or Illustrator
Import the SVG directly into your design tool. Every shape is a fully editable path - change colors, resize, and modify curves without any quality loss.
Use on websites
SVG files are resolution-independent and load faster than PNG for icons and logos. Embed them inline, use them as <img> tags, or style them with CSS.
Print at any size
Send your SVG to a print shop and get a perfect result at any size - from a business card to a billboard. No more blurry or pixelated prints.
Laser cutting & vinyl plotting
Cutting machines require vector paths. Convert your PNG design to SVG and import it directly into LightBurn, Cricut Design Space or RDWorks.
App & web icons
Convert a PNG icon set to SVG once, then scale it from 16px to 512px without touching Photoshop. Works perfectly with React, Vue and all component libraries.
Animations with CSS & JS
SVG elements can be animated with CSS transitions and JavaScript. Convert your static PNG to SVG and bring it to life with motion on your website.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this online SVG converter really free with no limits?
Yes, completely free. No registration, no watermarks, no daily conversion limits. PixelToPath is an open-source project (MIT license). You can convert as many files as you want.
Does this converter support color images?
Yes. Unlike most free online tools that only produce black-and-white SVGs, PixelToPath uses VTracer - a modern vectorization engine that natively handles full-color images. Choose the Poster or Photo preset for color output.
Are my uploaded files stored or shared?
No. Your files are sent to our server for processing and are immediately deleted after the SVG is returned. We do not store, log, or share any uploaded images.
What image formats are supported?
PNG, JPG, JPEG, BMP and WebP are all accepted. You can also paste an image directly from your clipboard (Ctrl+V / Cmd+V).
What is the maximum file size?
The online converter accepts files up to 20 MB. For larger files or batch processing, download the desktop application - it has no size or quantity limits and works entirely offline.
Why does the B&W result look wrong on my colored image?
In Binary mode, the image is first converted to grayscale using perceptual weights (the same as human vision). If the traced result is still too light, enable the Invert switch in Advanced settings - this is especially useful for logos or icons with a white background.
What is the difference between Spline, Polygon, and Pixel modes?
Spline produces smooth Bézier curves - the best quality for organic shapes. Polygon uses straight-line segments - ideal for geometric artwork with sharp angles. Pixel traces the exact pixel boundary without any smoothing - perfect for pixel art or retro game sprites.
Can I use the converted SVG for commercial projects?
Yes. The SVG files you generate are yours to use freely for any purpose, including commercial projects. There are no licensing restrictions on the output files.
Need Unlimited Conversions Offline?
The desktop version of PixelToPath runs entirely on your computer - no internet required, no file size limits, same powerful VTracer engine.
